What is Reiki Energy Healing?

Energy healing is an alternative healing method, or rather, a collection of alternative methods of helping people heal by sending them universal energy. These methods are done by laying on of hands or by channeling the energy over any distance. While this may sound weird to more traditional people in the West, these methods are based on principles that have been in use in the East and in other forms in the West, for thousands of years. The essence of Reiki as experienced by humans is love and grace. Reiki allows us to offer ourselves and others this essence in a non-intrusive and profound way.

Reiki is spiritually guided Universal Life Force Energy. The word Reiki is Japanese in origin and literally means: Rei = Universal (in the sense of spiritually guided or from the Divine); ki = Life force energy (the same as chi or prana). To "use" Reiki is to channel this energy through one's body to one's self or another for healing purposes. Seichim is "living light energy", also spiritually guided universal life force energy. Reiki and Seichim are different "flavors" or vibrational levels of the Divine energy that makes up the life force of everything in the Universe. Neither one is a religion, nor do they require that one be of any particular religious belief. 
 

Distance Energy Healing 

The practitioner works as a conduit for the Universal energy, and the patient then uses that energy to help his body heal. Although Reiki is usually a hands on treatment, however, it is very powerful and very effective to send Distance Reiki Healings. Again this simply involves the intent of the practitioner, and the sending of very powerful energy.

"This approach to healing is based on the view that a special energy moves through all living things--a life energy that is the creative impetus for the universe, for all matter, and for the moment to moment feelings of each human being. This energy moves in pulsating rhythms that make up the seasons, the stages of the life cycle, the developmental phases of growth, the tidal rhythms of breath, the drumbeat of the heart, and the vibratory dance of the smallest particles inside each cell. Seen in terms of energy, the body consists of

• energy centers (chakras), 
• energy pathways (meridians), and 
• energy fields (auras). 


According to this school of thought, when energy circulates freely, people are healthy, happy, in touch with themselves, in direct energy-level communication with one another, and in tune with the universe. This energy has been called many names--"magnetism" in the early 19th century by Mesmer. The Yogic name for it is "prana." In Taoism and acupuncture, it is known by the Chinese term "chi" or "qi" (Japanese "ki"). Wilhelm Reich called it "orgone." 

Each theory of healing has an explanation for the nature of human difficulty and disease. In this theory, for a multitude of reasons, life-energy readily becomes blocked in human beings. The channels through which it flows can be stopped up, weakening the energy in one part of the body, building it to excessive levels in another. 

Each healing system also proposes a cure: When life-energy is blocked, it must be freed in order to bring about a healing of the problems caused by that blockage--problems that include acute and chronic diseases, personality disorders, mood afflictions, psychological aberrations, anger, frustration, depression, cruelty, addiction, anxiety, indecisiveness, and all the adaptations we make to these conditions. 

Life-energy may be released and rebalanced through a number of means. Acupuncturists use needles, pressure, and the precise application of heat to balance the flow of "chi" through elaborately mapped pathways called "meridians." 
Reiki manipulate and moves energy with the hands, not to remove muscular tension in a mechanical sense, but to clear the deep energy pathways of the body. The "healing hands" movement among holistic nurses uses touch and also works with the energy field that surrounds the body.

In the ancient method of the laying on of hands, healing energy is transmitted from one person to another by touch, to reenergize or rebalance the afflicted part. When the energy of healing hands is transmitted to others at a distance, it is then called Distance Healing."

1. What is Reiki?
Reiki is healing energy that is transmitted through the hands, flowing from the channel to the receiver. Reiki healing energy comes from God. The person giving the healing is simply a channel, a conduit, for the energy to pass into the receiver. The channel is not working with his own energy and experiences no energy drain. Reiki can be used to treat another person or yourself.

2. What benefits can be obtained from Reiki?
A person who receives Reiki is simply made better. It is both a healing energy and a system builder. You do not need to be sick or weak in order to benefit from receiving Reiki.

3. What should I do if I have a health problem?
The first step should always be to see a doctor. I believe that most people will get better faster if they also receive Reiki Energy Healing.

4. What does receiving Reiki feel like?
Some people feel the Reiki going in as warmth or heat, some feel it as energy, and others feel nothing. The person receiving the Reiki does nothing. Most then sleep quite well that night. The Reiki healing energy will stay with you all night and keep working. I notice most of the change from a Reiki session the next morning.

5. What of the phenomena of heat in energy healings?
We as humans are living, dancing, vibrant holograms of light and energy (in fact light IS energy). Energy transfer causes the temperature of the substance to rise – this takes place at the molecular level. Atoms are perpetually vibrating.  Those atoms then make a quantum transition from “electronically excited” to “vibrationally excited”, meaning that the energy causes the whole atom to move.  We feel that motion as “heat”; hence we often feel heat when experiencing (giving or receiving) energy healing.

6. What does the word "Reiki" mean?
"Reiki" is Japanese, "rei" means soul or spirit and "ki" means universal life force.

7. What is the origin of Reiki?
Reiki is over 2500 years old and was most recently rediscovered in the late 1800's by Dr. Mikao Usui, a Christian minister in Kyoto, Japan. It began spreading from Japan and was introduced into the United States by Hawayo Takata. Reiki is a universal healing energy and is not restricted to any particular religion or belief system.

8. Who can benefit from Reiki Healing or Distance Energy Healings?
Every single life form, that is, adults, children (yes, even babies), animals – each can benefit from Distance Energy Healings because it works with the laws of the Universe, according to the Divine Intelligence – and when Distance Energy Healing is needed for general well-being, for restoration from dis-ease (whether from acute or chronic conditions), or for the purposes as a “general tonic” that is how it is requested from the and tapped into through the GodForce through the Healer (as conduit) – to be received by the patient.  The GodForce doesn’t discriminate as to how many legged the patient is (i.e. 4 legged as animals, or 2 legged as humans).

Adults: Adults are thinking, feeling, and many times judgmental human beings. To be open to Reiki Healing or Distance Energy Healing is a beautifully non-judgmental act.  It is based on an understanding that yes, the world is a wonderfully mysterious place – where God’s imprint is everywhere.  BUT IT ALSO IS BASED ON RECOGNITION THAT Reiki Healing or Distance Energy Healing works based on that exact principle (actually if you need an exact scientific explanation, then please see FAQ # 5).
More importantly, recognition that Reiki Healing or Distance Energy Healing KNOWS NO BOUNDARIES, NO RELIGION, NO DISCRIMINATION.

Children: Because children are pure souls, without having learned judgment yet -  Reiki Healing or Distance Energy Healing is all powerful and VERY, VERY EFFECTIVE. They accept with full ability, and full willingness the goodness – the Reiki Healing or Distance Energy Healing.

Animals: Animals suffer stress for a variety of reasons including living in unnatural environments, absorbing the emotions of the homes they live in, taking on negative energies and diseases as a buffer to protect their guardians, and misunderstanding situations that they find themselves in. 
Animals are very receptive to telepathic communication and energy work, and especially healing; they are eager and willing to clear their energy fields, but require a little help in doing so. Animals often heal quicker than their guardians, as they don't carry the same amount of emotional or energetic "baggage" as most humans do. Animals are pure souls, without judgment – and therefore are fully able and willing to accept unconditionally the pure Reiki Healing or Distance Energy Healing.
